DETAILED MODELING OF FACING FOR REINFORCED SOIL WALLS

Abstract eng:
The ramifications of different modeling techniques for facing elements used in two-dimensional (plane strain) mathematical modeling and finite element analysis of a laboratory instrumented, geosynthetically reinforced wall with cohesive backfill are discussed. The wall is subjected to loads associated with its construction and with the application of surcharge pressures. This construction process is numerically simulated using an “incremental construction” approach. The backfill soil is characterized using a timedependent bounding surface model for cohesive soils. A general time-dependent constitutive model characterizes the reinforcement.
