MICROMECHANICS OF ANISOTROPIC DAMAGE IN ROCKS AND CONCRETE : UNILATERAL EFFECTS MODELING AND COUPLING WITH FRICTION

Abstract eng:
The paper is devoted to the study of a three dimensional anisotropic damage model for geomaterials such as concrete or certain rocks materials. Using a micromechanical approach, we first establish a general expression of the macroscopic free energy which incorporates microstructural quantities relevant for this class of materials (mesocracks density and orientation and crack opening displacements). Then, we formulate a micro-macro elastic anisotropic damage model which takes into account the mesocracks closure under certain loading paths. Moreover, this unilateral damage mechanism is finally coupled with friction phenomena occurring on closed mesocracks. Finally, the predictive capabilities of the model are analyzed through some simulations.
