000005018 520__ $$2eng$$aA reliability-based optimization (RBO) method of a stiffened composite panel is present in this paper. The panel is stiffened with bar stiffeners, the weight of which is minimized so that no global, local plate or stiffener buckling happen under the uniaxial compressive load. In the consideration of efficiency, the RBO is carried out in two stages. In the deterministic optimization stage, Genetic Algorithm of variable-length chromosome is utilized. Analytical solution is obtained for global critical buckling load of the panel based on the Grillage analysis method, and is shown in good agreement with FEM for the present structure. Then, the RBO stage is performed based on the deterministic optimal designs. The response surface method is applied in structural reliability analysis, while material properties and load magnitude are treated as random variables.
