LONG–TIME OBSERVATION OF A RC–CHIMNEY’S STIFFNESS WITH THE USE OF WIND-EXCITED VIBRATION

Abstract eng:
Downtrend of the fundamental natural frequency of a structure with time, detected by periodical diagnostic in-situ measurements, can signal damage starting anywhere in the structure or the progressing degradation of its material. The paper examines the influence of ageing (creep) of concrete on the modulus of elasticity, using the data established on a real chimney during the first 7 years of its existence. The authors attempt to use these data for the prediction of the future behaviour of this structure.
