However, despite of these advancements, only a limited number of applications of on-line structural health monitoring systems has been realized in practice. The paper analyzes the situation by summarizing the characteristics of some of the applications performed on special structures and discusses the issue of creating a procedural framework that can stimulate the diffusion of SHM techniques even in more conventional structures.
