Strong-motion records from interplate and intraslab events with Mw ≥ 5.0 ~ 7.3 and hypocenter distances less than 300 km are used. Regression analysis results show that the standard errors are significantly reduced by the second prediction equation in the short periods less than about 1 s. The standard errors from the both prediction equations are nearly the same for period longer than 1 s. Finally, the anelastic attenuation coefficients obtained from the second prediction equation are discussed in terms of the different frequency dependency of the quality factor Q in the fore-arc and back-arc mantle wedges in northern Japan.
