EXPLORING THE POTENTIAL OF THE FUNCTIONALLY GRADED SCCC FOR DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE CONCRETE SOLUTIONS

Abstract eng:
The challenge for civil engineers is to develop structures in harmony with the concept of sustainable development by using of high performance materials, of low environmental impact and produced at reasonable cost. The symbiotic of Functionally Graded Material and Self Consolidating Cement Composites concepts –FGSCCC- certainly contributes to reach this goal as it shows promise for hypothesized cost-efficient spatially tailored structural cross-sections. On this paper the feasibility of the FGSCCC for producing tunnel segments has been assessed experimentally. Results showed the potentiality of the concept in reducing: i) long-term costs, and ii) design or processing throughputs.
