Estimation of Long Period Ground Motions by Using Semi-Empirical Methods

Abstract eng:
In this paper a modified empirical Green's functions (EGF) method is suggested and used for ground motion simulation. The source parameters of asperity and rupture process are decided by the inhomogeneous fault. The synthesis of Tangshan earthquake in far field is used to study the influence of the location of single asperity. Brune’s model is used for predicting the Fourier spectrum of single asperity. In order to discover the influence of the aperity parameters on the ground motion, the asperity is simulated in the different conditions, which include the area and the stress drop of the asperity. The simulation result shows that the stress drop and the asperity area play important role in the far field Fourier spectrum. However, the research results show that these source parameters have different influence on the Fourier spectrum at different frequencies.
