Design and installation of tuned mass dampers into a very slender footbridge across aagade in copenhagen

Abstract eng:
This paper presents the results of a dynamic analysis that was conducted in connection with the design of an arched footbridge in Copenhagen, Denmark. After a short introduction of the general bridge geometry the main focus is on the dynamic behaviour of the bridge. Because of the very slender bridge design installation of TMDs (Tuned Mass Dampers) have been necessary in order to accommodate pedestrian comfort. This paper presents the methods that have been used to analyse the response from pedestrians and the considerations made in connection with the design of the TMDs. Finally, results from on sites measurements are presented.
