Some ideas on time integration for the simulation of the dynamic response of soft materials


Abstract eng:
We present some recent ideas on time-integration geared towards the simulation of the ballistic penetration of a soft gel. These include a class of parallel variational time integrators characterized by the adoption of possibly different time steps on each element and an explicit contact algorithm with remarkable energy conservation properties. Numerical examples illustrate the performance of the method.
