A general energy conserving method for code coupling for structural dynamics

Abstract eng:
This paper is dedicated to the presentation of a code coupling strategy for transient structural dynamics analysis. It is interesting for many complex industrial situations the prediction of responses of a structure to transient loadings is the combination of the dynamic responses of a lot of parts. Each one is often designed by different companies having their own expertise, their own structural codes. One may impose to all partners of a complex project which are responsible of one part of the whole project to use the same code with compatible meshes and time steps: this is the usual way to proceed but this is a heavy procedure and this also implies a loss of efficiency because each partner has to use the same software. An interesting alternative is to have robust method which permits to couple heterogeneous computing tools having their own mesh and time steps, as well as their own time integrators. This paper presents a general method which enables to couple codes and ensures perfect energy conservation. The method is illustrated on some simple examples
