Static and dynamic analysis of revitalised office building from 70's in poland

The office building was assembled in 70. and has been in use until late 80. First two floors are made as a monolithic and the rest are prefabricated as RC frame with the shear walls in both directions. In the end of 90. a new owner wish to refurbish the old building to B++ office block and to redevelop up to 3000 m2 of a new part. Old building is without the basement, but a new planed part should be with one floor basement. All aspects which came from the coexistence of an old and new part of the office block will be the scope of the article. Because of limited floor height, restricted by the old part a new one is as column-slab structure, to give as much as possible open space for tenants. New floors are constructed as RC composite structure based on prefabricated RC thin slabs. Main superstructure is the monolithic RC frame. Floor structure is based on partially prefabricated Filigran slabs with in situ topping and on the shear beams which transfer shear forces from 200 or 250 mm floor slab to the columns. The BW for Windows program, developed by the authors, has been used for computations. One of the preprocessors of program collate data from the schema made by the AutoCAD system. The quick interpretation of results is possible due to the set of some postprocessors, which visualise displacements, stress distribution in the walls of the structure and the shear force intensity function in vertical bands of connecting beams and vertical flexible joints. In our paper models of shear wall structures in the modernised part as well as the new adjacent part have been shown. The presented figures include normal stresses distribution at the base of the structure. The short period of time necessary to obtain the results of the analysis has allowed for a fully interactive structural design. Many analysis has been created to asses structural space stiffness for existing and new part of the building. Analysis showed, that existing part deflections were 7 times less then permissible one and after concrete grade of a new part has been changed, deflections for both parts were almost the same. The revitalised office building has been adapted to perform new functions and up till now it has been successfully functioning.
