Computational investigation of shear wall-frame interaction in strengthening accounting torsional effects

Abstract eng:
Structural strengthening has been considered as an imperative part of rehabilitation of existing buildings. Constructing shear walls as an addition to the existing structure of the buildings is one of the common methodologies in strengthening. In order to increase the structural capacity of existing buildings for a possible earthquake, shear walls are placed in the structural system directly. Dimensions and replacement of shear walls depend on the structural system, damage stage, material quality of the existing building. Integration quality between existing building and new parts of the structure shows the performance quality of the strengthened structure under earthquake effect. In the present study, integration between existing and new parts of the structure torsion effects is taken into consideration as assigning springs with different rigidity to demonstrate the variety of concrete strength of the existing structures.
