Modelling the Junction Between Plate and Beam in a Floor Construct

Abstract eng:
The connection between plates and beams in lightweight floor structures are of great importance regarding the attenuation of the vibrations. The ability to a priori attain knowledge on the behavior of such junctions in the design phase would be highly beneficial in cost savings and in improving the performance of lightweight structures. The effects of the connections between the beams and plates have been studied in a recent paper by L. Galbrun using the SEA-formulation, it was there noted that the modeling of the beams are of great importance for the prediction of the behavior of the structures [1]. In this work FEM was applied to model the plates and beams and also for the connections between them. The use of FEM restricts the frequencies investigated to the lower part of the frequency spectrum but enables us to make more accurate predictions of the behavior of the structure, and allows the model of the connections to be used as part of a larger model simulating the behavior of a larger floor-wall structure of which a full scale model have been built, or even an entire house. The simulations were compared with the measurements performed on different combinations of plates attached to beams. Care was taken in the measurement procedure to capture as much information as possible from the examined structures to give as complete set of data as possible on the behavior of the structure. Due to the anisotropic properties of the beams and plates the choice of material parameters in the model has a great influence on the accuracy of the simulations. It was concluded that the effects of the simulated couplings was hard to discern from the effects of the choice of the material properties. References [1] L.
