Numerical simulation of thrombosis in a blood vessel

Abstract eng:
Based on Sorenson et al. ’s model of platelet deposition on to artificial surfaces [1, 2] , an improved mathematical model describing the process of thrombus growth in—vivo is developed. The new model is comprised of two parts: the equations of fluid motion and a set of convection—reaction—diffusion equations representing the transport and reactions of chemical and biological species. The model is then applied to the rapid thrombus growth in an injured blood vessel with Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP) injection, for which a good agreement between our numerical results and available experimental data is demonstrated.
