Effect of crossflow vortex on TS wave in a Falkner-Skan-Cooke boundary layer

Abstract eng:
Nonlinear Parabolic Stability Equation (NPSE) was applied to study the effect of Cross-Flow (CF) vortex on the evolution of Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) wave in a Falkner-Skan—Cooke 0: SC) boundary layer. The basic flow is chosen such that unstable CF waves and unstable TS waves coexist. The growth of a relatively small TS wave (A=10'5) is studied with the presence of CF vortices. Both the stationary CF vortices and travelling CF vortices have been investigated. It is found that the TS wave can be greatly boosted by CF vortices through Mean Flow Distortion (MFD) and nonlinear interaction.
