Reynolds-number universality of quasi-steady quasi-homogeneous theory

Abstract eng:
A rigorous formal statement of the hypothesis of quasi-steady and quasi-homogeneous (QSQH) nature of the scale interaction in the near-wall part of a turbulent boundary layer is proposed. This makes the corresponding derivations easier. Multi-objective optimisation is applied to determine the cut-offs for the large-scale filter, which gave better results than the filters based on the known suggestions for the cut-offs. Comparisons for a set of statistical characteristics obtained from the databases of direct numerical simulations of a plane channel flow were performed. It was observed that the accuracy of the predictions based on the QSQH hypothesis improve as the Reynolds number increases. The next step will be testing extrapolation from medium to high Reynolds numbers based on the QSQH approach.
