Nonlinear interaction of the first mode with the second mode

Abstract eng:
The evolution of the second mode and the first mode was investigated using Parabolized Stability Equations (PSE) in Ma=6.0 Whoundary layers. It is found that the growth of the first mode disturbance is significantly promoted by the nonlinear interaction of the first mode disturbance, the second mode disturbance and a forced wave with the difference frequency. Enhanced by the nonlinear interaction, the first mode is likely to play an important role in the transition of hypersonic boundary layers.
