Mass transfer with slender drops in shear and extensional flows

Abstract eng:
Mass transfer between a slender drop and a viscous liquid in shear and extensional creeping flows has been theoretically studied. The problem is governed by three dimensionless parameters: the capillary number (Ca), the viscosity ratio (2,) and the Peclet number (Pe). As the shear or extension rate increases, the drop becomes thinner, longer, the surface area increases, leading to larger mass transfer rates.
