Steady electrorotation of a drop in a constant electric field

Abstract eng:
The electrorotation of a drop of a viscous weakly electrically conducting polarizable liquid suspended in another viscous weakly electrically conducting polarizable liquid immiscible with the former as well as the electrohydrodynamic flow inside and outside the drop in a constant electric field is theoretically investigated. The influence of the surface electric conductivity is taken into account. The surface tension of the drop is regarded as sufficiently large in order to neglect the deformation of the drop when calculating the electric field and flow. The governing equations and boundary conditions are written down. The used methods and the obtained results are described. The expressions for the intensity of the electric field, velocity, and pressure inside and outside the drop are written down for the case when the viscosity of the drop is much greater than that of the surrounding liquid. The obtained results are summarized and discussed.
