A reciprocal theorem for convective scalar transfer from a particle in linear flows


Abstract eng:
We develop a reciprocal theorem for convective scalar transfer from an arbitrary-shaped particle in linear flows. In particular, we obtain a closed-form expression for the total transfer rate from a particle with a non-uniform surface distribution given the known solution of the scalar field for a constant surface distribution. Hence, eliminating the need for calculating a detailed scalar field corresponding to the non-uniform boundary condition. Employing this formula, we analytically calculate the convective heat transfer from a sphere with an arbitrary surface temperature in Stokes flow in the limits of small and large P´eclet numbers.
