Flow through the channel coated with charged porous media

Abstract eng:
We consider steady state flow of a viscous Newtonian fluid containing solution of water and ions through a wavy wall channel coated with electrically charged poroelastic layer. This is relevant to applied problems such as blood flow through a post-capillary vessel lined with the endothelial glycocalyx layer. A triphasic mixture theory is used for the mathematical description of the mechanoelectrochemical behavior of the charged porous layer. The governing equations are solved numerically by means of combined Boundary Element and Finite Element Methods as well as analysed analytically using an asymptotic analysis. We examine the impact of geometry and electrical charge effect on hydrodynamics, as well as the role of the EGL in transmitting fluid shear stress exerted on the vessel wall.
