Analysis of frictionally excited thermoelastic instability and hot spots in automotive disk brakes

Abstract eng:
One of the unwanted effects during braking is non-uniform heating of the brake disks and formation of hot spots. In the present contribution, an extension of Lee and Barber´s approach (1993) to the brake disks with vents and to the case of finite thickness of friction pads is used for further modelling of the transient problem of hot spots.
