Analysis of nearshore tsunami wave patterns: solitary waves, N-waves and undular bores.

Abstract eng:
Numerical simulations of tsunami propagation on various sloping beaches are carried out based on the fully nonlinear and highly dispersive Boussinesq model. Different wave patterns near the shoreline are obtained. The characteristics of the nearshore tsunami waves including solitary waves, N-waves and undular bores are discussed. Scenarios of real and hypothetic tsunamis are simulated and different tsunami patterns in the nearshore regions are compared with the field observation. The impacts of the topographies on the nearshore tsunami waveforms are analyzed.
