Creep-fatigue crack growth in a superheater header

Abstract eng:
Structures operating at high temperatures are damaged by creep processes. If the structure is also subjected to cyclic loading, the fatigue damage is usually significant. Paper is focused on prediction of creep-fatigue crack growth in a superheater header. The assessment is based on established procedures BEGL R5 and R6. The header is loaded by internal pressure and thermal cycles during outages. The stress analysis was performed using finite element method and stress intensity factor was evaluated from numerical solution. The results of creep-crack growth showed significant influence of thermal stresses on crack growth.
