Sensitivity analysis of energetic materials using an Eulerian solver SCIMITAR3D

Abstract eng:
The current work presents some of the salient features of a massively parallel Cartesian grid based solver SCIMITAR3D. SCIMITAR3D is an Eulerian solver which is developed to analyse engineering applications that involves high speed multi-material impact situations. In this work, the key features of SCIMITAR3D are discussed in the context of sensitivity characterization of heterogeneous energetic materials such as HMX based pressed explosives. The sensitivity of energetic materials are characterized by performing mesoscale simulations on the real Inicrostructures of these materials under imposed shock loading. The effect of Inicrostructural differences on the relative sensitivity of these materials is demonstrated.
