A theory of strain gradient-divergence plasticity

Abstract eng:
This work develops a gradient-divergence theory of small deformation viscoplasticity based on a set of microstresses; the second law of thermodynamics and; a constitutive theory accounting for the divergence of the plastic strain. Using the principle of virtual power, a microforce balance is obtained. Restricted by the local free energy imbalance, the constitutive relations together with microforce balance are shown to constitute a nonlocal flow rule which is a nonlinear partial differential equation in the plastic strain tensor. Thus the flow rule is shown to generalize the Gurtin—Anand model in [3].
