Analysis of criterion for kink banding in layered solids


Abstract eng:
The deformation mechanism of kink bands in a layered solid with a single-slip system is studied. The computational analysis from our previous work, which used a spring–mass model is developed to discuss the criterion for the kink banding. An idealized model from a viewpoint of the kinematic condition of compatibility formulated for the development of a ridge-shaped kink structure(RSKS) is used to explain the results. A theoretical consideration based on the Maxwell stability criterion for the simple idealized model predicts the dependency of the intensity of interlayer interaction.
