Integrity of piping systems with random number of defects exposed to internal pressure

Abstract eng:
Paper is focused on comprehensive solution of probabilistic integrity assessment of pressure vessels. Engineering criteria was fully respected during solution, however fracture properties, fracture quantities (stress intensity factor, I-integral) were random quantities or stochastic processes (time-depending degradation of fracture properties, crack size and growth). Using these principles, relations for risk calculations were derived assuming presence a single defect (crack) and the relations were developed both for elastic and for elasto-plastic behaviour of material. A calculation of integral fracture initiation risk is proposed in the second part of the paper. The procedure took into consideration a random number of possible defects in a structure. A description of crack size using two-dimensional Gauss distribution was used in calculations.
