Development of an Experimental Correlation for Red Blood Cells Aggregation Rate

Abstract eng:
Red Blood Cells (RBCs) aggregation depends on the shear rate of the flow, under low shear rate rouleaux (aggregated RBCs) are formed and formed rouleaux disaggregate under high shear rates in the flow. Population Balance Modeling (PBM) is used to find the aggregation rate in a dynamic situation of RBCs sedimentation. In this configuration, disaggregation can be neglected due to low shear rate. The sizes of the aggregates are extracted using an image processing techniques and by using these data the aggregation rate is found.
