Multiscale modeling using a Dynamic Kriging-based metamodeling technique

Abstract eng:
This paper demonstrates the use of metamodeling techniques for bridging scales in a multiscale modelling framework. For the problem of the interaction of a shock wave with a cloud of particles, unknown source terms appear as momentum/energy exchange terms between the two phases in the momentum and energy equations of the respective phases in the macroscopic description of the system. In order to close the system of equations, resolved mesoscale numerical experiments are performed and the unknown momentum/energy exchange terms are explicitly computed using the Dynamic Kriging method (DKG). The ... in a macroscale computation.
