Heat and momentum transport in horizontal convection (INVITED)

Abstract eng:
In horizontal convection systems heat is supplied and removed through a single, top or bottom, surface of a fluid layer. For such We derive limiting scalings for the Reynolds number and for the convective heat transport, measured by the Nusselt number, with the input parameters, which are the Rayleigh number, Prandtl number and the aspect ratio of the convection cell. The theoretical findings are supported by Direct Numerical Simulations for a wide range of the Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers.
