Onsager's variational principle and the moving contact line problem (INVITED)

Abstract eng:
Onsager’s variational principle gives us a general framework to describe non-equilibrium phenomena in the linear response regime. It has been used to derive the hydrodynamic boundary conditions for the moving contact line in two-phase flows. In this paper, we first discuss the moving contact line in immiscible two-phase flows, and then discuss the moving contact line in one-component van der Waals fluids.
