Molecular origins of higher harmonics in LAOS: Shear stress

Abstract eng:
Recent work focuses on understanding the molecular origins of higher harmonics arising in the shear stress response of polymeric liquids undergoing large-amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS). These higher harmonics have been explained using orientation distribution of a dilute suspension of rigid dumbbells in a Newtonian fluid, neglecting polymer interaction. We explore these interactions by examining the Curtiss-Bird model, a kinetic molecular theory that accounts for restricted polymer motions arising when chains are concentrated.
