Treating anisotropy in LES subgrid models (INVITED)

Abstract eng:
In many applications of large eddy simulation (LES), the grid or filter that defines the scales of turbulence to be simulated is anisotropic. Further, it is common for the turbulence to be so highly anisotropic and the filter scale so large that the unresolved turbulence cannot be assumed to be locally isotropic. However, LES subgrid models do not generally account for this turbulence and resolution anisotropy. In this talk we propose and evaluate an anisotropic subgrid modeling approach designed to address these shortcomings.
