Efficient Algorithm for DNS of Compressible Turbulent Wall- Bounded Flows

Abstract eng:
We present a novel implicit algorithm which allows to remove the acoustic time step limitation in compressible shock-free flows. The key point of the algorithm is the use of the entropy equation in place of total energy. This allows to remove the acoustic time step restriction in the wall-normal direction by solving a single scalar tridiagonal system, which is considerably more efficient with respect to previous implicit algorithms [1, 2]. Direct Numerical Simulations(DNS) of compressible channel flows are presented to show accuracy and efficiency of the new approach.
