Inertial and inertial convective ranges and crossover lengths

Abstract eng:
Local scaling exponents of the structure functions of the velocity and two passive scalar increments in steady isotropic turbulence at very high Reynolds numbers Rλ = 805 with the grid points N = 40963 are examined. The two passive scalars are convected by the identical turbulence but excited by the different scalar injections. It is found that all the exponents have plateaus at separation distance in between twice the Taylor microscale and a quarter of the integral scale, for which the inertial range is defined and does not coincide with the −5/3 kinetic energy spectrum range. The crossover lengths of the inertial (convective) and the dissipation (diffusive) ranges are found to be independent of the order of the structure functions.
