Optimal design of rectangular fins for underwater propulsion

Abstract eng:
Inspired by fish swimming, the propulsion of crafts with flexible plates has recently regained interest. In this experimental study, we look—at the effect of geometry on the propulsive performance of rectangular flexible fins subjected to an oscillatory forcing. The optimal design of a rectangular fin appears to be only dictated by its resonant frequency.
