On the Free Energy of Cells Spread on Micropatterned Substrates


Abstract eng:
A new approach to the analysis of the spreading of cells on micro-pattemed substrates is presented. A thermodynamically consistent active cell model with non-local conservation of the total number of cell cytoskeletal proteins is used to simulate a range of spread states. The minimum free energy of the system is identified and corresponding stress fibre distributions are found to match experimental observations.
