Model for friction in small-sized adhesive particles

Abstract eng:
In the present work, a model for sliding and rolling friction in adhesive particles has been developed by extending the JKR model. The results predicted by the model are consistent with experiments. It has been found the friction duality in particles may arise from the different modes of motion onset and under proper conditions rolling friction may be larger than sliding friction, which is contrary to what has been found at macroscopic level.
