Large deformation --- large amount of unknown

Abstract eng:
Large deformations are exposed from a viewpoint of differential geometry. This enables to formulate kinematics of continua in a compact, coordinate-free way with clear geometrical sense. In addition, more advanced concepts of Riemannian geometry bring interesting, totally new ideas to the very basic theory of large deformations. From this perspective the objective time derivative is unambiguously selected and the logarithmic strain attains a clear geometrical meaning. The primary aim of this paper is to present a brief outline of this approach and attract attention to these new ideas, quite unknown. At the end, new objective time derivative will be proposed.
