Mathematical models of machine tool drives with ball screws

Abstract eng:
In the paper, two methods for modelling machine tool drives with ball screws are shown and compared. There are common equation formulation and the multi-pole modelling. These methods are explained on the example of a drive with rotating ball screw clamped at both ends. Ball screw is modelled using FEM elements. The Guyan reduction technique is used for condensation of the obtained eight-mass model to a two-mass model.
