Improvement of weight-efficiency for a vehicle component based on the U* theory
Abstract eng: In this paper, a method was proposed based on the U* theory to decrease the weight while improve the load transfer performance of the vehicle structure. Based on the proposed method, material removal and structural modifications were conducted to a vehicle component. Compared to the original, the modified design makes the structure lighter and performs better in terms of load transfer. Meanwhile, the overall rigidity of the modified structure is not declined due to the weight reduction.
