Uncertainties in Multi-Stage Rotors Modeled By the Polynomial Chaos Expansion

Abstract eng:
In this work the effects of uncertainties in turbomachinery rotors is assessed using the Polynomial Chaos Expansion. The multistage cyclic symmetry approach is used to reduce the size of the problem and the uncertainties are modeled as variations in the material properties of the blades. A numerical example consisting in an assembly of two bladed disc is presented. Results obtained by polynomial chaos are validated by comparisons with MonteCarlo simulations. As a consequence of the included uncertainties changes in nature of modes are observed.
