A Method for Wave Propagation Analysis Via Componentwise Partition of Stress Components: Extension To Triangular and Tetrahedral Elements

Abstract eng:
This study presents a computational method of discontinuous stress wave propagation in solids via pushforward-pullback time integration[1] and component-wise partition of longitudinal and shear stress components[2]. The algorithms is shown to capture the discontinuous stress waves accurately in two and three dimensional solids. The present method partitions the total displacement, u, into the longitudinal and shear components such that and the equations of motion can be partitioned accordingly: Partition of total displacement : u = u L + uS
