Viscoplastic Flow Past a Cylinder: Transition To Turbulence

Abstract eng:
Due to their characteristic flow behavior viscoplastic flows are generally considered laminar. Therefore almost all studies in the literature of viscoplastic flows are focused on laminar flow. However it is possible that the flow could be turbulent. In this work we performed DNS simulations in order to understand the flow when it undergoes a transition from laminar turbulent flow. Results will be shown for the general flow, the structure of the yielded and unyielded regions are well as the global flow characteristics such as the drag coefficient.
