A paramedic study of the effect of a tornado generator’s geometric design on the flow field

Abstract eng:
Surface pressure and velocity flow field data have been measured in a tornado simulator for a constant aspect ratio and for two different swirl ratios. An investigation has been undertaken in order to establish what, if any, effect the convection chamber height has on the results. The tentative results suggest that the height of the convection chamber can influence the flow field. This is a potentially important finding and thus has implications for the physical simulation of tornado-type flows.
