Large eddy simulation of pressure fluctuations on a surface-mounted cube

Abstract eng:
The mean and standard deviation of static pressure on a surface-mounted cube are computed by Large Eddy Simulation (LES). The effects of various simulation parameters on the computational time and on the statistics of pressure caused by a perpendicular approaching wind have been studied. The combined use of a coarse hexahedral mesh, a non-iterative time advancement and a spectral synthesizer for generating inlet velocity fluctuations led to the fastest LES calculations without loss of accuracy. It was also found that the Vortex method is not suitable for estimating pressure fluctuations on a surface-mounted cube.
