Experimental investigation of ECC mechanical properties after exposure to aggressive environment

Abstract eng:
The effects of aggressive environment on the mechanical behavior of a strain-hardening fiber reinforced cementitious composite (PVA-ECC) are experimentally investigated. It was found that exposing PVA-ECC to cycles of immersion in chloride solution and drying at elevated temperature causes embrittlement of the composite, though it still retains some of the hardening ability under uniaxial tension. Immersion in nitrate solution, on the other hand, causes reduction in strength but improvement of the strain-hardening behavior
