SBRA method vs. Eurocode-reliability assessment of a steel structure

Abstract eng:
Dramatic development of computer technology allows for consideration the transition from „Partial Factors Method“ to structural reliability assessment concept based on fully probabilistic approach. A probabilistic concept SBRA based on Limit State philosophy, Monte Carlo simulation technique and parameters generated histograms has been developed over the last fifteen years and documented e.g. in [5] and [10]. The paper shortly explains the limitations of the Partial Factors Design concept, PFD, and on concrete example of a simple steel structure shows the differences between reliability assessment based on the PFD approach used in Eurocode and SBRA method.
